New York State Advocacy Update

Jan 28, 2025

It has been a busy week in Albany! Governor Hochul released her Executive Budget a week after her State of the State, and presented the budget to the public on Tuesday, January 21st.

This year’s budget totals $252 billion compared to a $242 billion from last year, a significant jump, but one that the Governor states is necessary. Key priorities include a focus on middle-class households, education, housing, and safety.

NYATEP is pleased to see some elements of this budget addressing workforce needs, particularly the investment in youth and apprenticeship, but we are disappointed that another year goes by where other priorities miss the mark. The Office of Strategic Workforce Development remains without a dedicated funding stream and the income disregard lacks an increase to include all New Yorkers.

Over the coming weeks, we will continue to keep you updated on ways to raise your voice on the needs of New Yorkers across the state. Please be sure to register today for our Workforce Advocacy Day in Albany on March 18th!  Click here to secure your spot!
