Federal Update as of January 28, 2025

Despite the fact that many of us are still recovering from the massive WIOA Reauthorization push that happened between November and December, the Federal Government is roaring.

On Monday, President Donald Trump’s budget office ordered all federal agencies to temporarily block the disbursement of grants and loans except for Social Security, Medicare, and other programs providing direct aid to individuals. The memo says the temporary pause, effective at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, is intended to ensure agencies comply with Trump’s previously published executive orders.

It’s important to say it twice - the halt is temporary, and NYATEP is carefully monitoring this situation. We know how hard each of you are working to provide economic mobility and support to New Yorkers who need it most. Decisions made around these funds impact not only your organizations but also millions of individuals across our state and nation.

Now is the time to organize. NYATEP is working with other nonprofits in New York State and urges organizations to collaborate on data collection, support, and raising awareness on this temporary halt. We encourage all members to be ready with relevant data and information on how these funds impact your organization and the people you serve. We also ask that you continue to reach out to your federal representatives cohesively and straightforwardly.
