Bronx Green Jobs Center breaks ground at Fordham University

Jul 14, 2025

On Thursday, July 10, Fordham University broke ground on the Bronx Green Jobs Center, a new project designed to connect community residents to emerging work and career opportunities in New York’s growing green economy. In addition to Fordham President Tania Tetlow, public officials who participated in the event included U.S. Representative Ritchie Torres, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, and New York City Council Member Oswald Felíz, as well as leaders from New York City’s Economic Development Corporation and New York State Department of Labor.

Located in a formerly abandoned carpet factory on East Fordham Road near Fordham’s Bronx campus, the Bronx Green Jobs Center will fill nearly 13,000 square feet across two floors and a roof. The space will feature classrooms, labs, offices, a community venue for events of up to 180 people, and a café featuring locally grown and made products. The Center’s primary purpose will be to serve as a talent hub for jobseekers, workers, and employers who are active in the green economy labor market. Specifically, the site will offer training related to Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure and maintenance, solar panel installation, energy efficiency, and urban farming and agriculture, with additional offerings related to green entrepreneurship support and environmental citizenship.

Fordham is working closely with a wide range of partners from the Bronx community, as well as higher education institutions, green economy employers, and others, to develop the Center. This $14 million project is expected to open its doors in Fall 2026. More information is available here
